What is it?

A 'formal collaboration' is where two or more schools share resources, staffing or premises in order to enhance sustainabililty and provision. There are many examples of this throughout the country and it is recognised through research to be an effective way to improve small schools (Better Together, Eastern Leadership Centre DFE Funded research).

There are many different models throughout the country and Albury and Puller Memorial are a formal collaboration with a shared headteacher.

The governing bodies of Puller Memorial and Albury decided during the 2016/17 academic year that a formal collaboration would have many advantages. The proposal was discussed with staff and parents and the decision was taken that I would share my time as headteacher between the schools. I split my time equally; leaving one afternoon per week to focus on the collaboration itself.
